Candlelight Quilt Guild
General Meeting Minutes October 8 , 2024 QCNYS- Candlelight will be hosting the consortium meeting Wednesday, December 4th. We will need volunteers to sign up to make baked goods, raffle baskets, decorating and set up. Please consider donating fat quarters, fabric yardage, tools, patterns, etc. We also have to make center pieces for the tables. We are thinking to put a FQ on a skewer to look like rose buds that will be raffled off at the meeting. Please remember to apply for a scholarship on the QCNYS site for $100 towards a workshop. You can apply every 4 years. If awarded a scholarship you will have to give a report on what you learned. We had guest speaker Munna Rubaii from the Quilter’s Consortium of New York State that shared what the Consortium does and the benefits to its membership. The Consortium is in need of volunteers for various positions. Some being Information Chair, Website, help at quarterly meetings, hanging guilts, registration of Wee Little quilts. Munna asked our guild for ideas on what the Consortium can do to better serve its members. One topic brought up was to be more involved with the NYS Fair Quilt entries/awards. Also suggested to have a data base of available teachers available for guilds. Wool Workshop- The wool workshop with Lydia Middaugh was postponed and future dates were issued for the membership to vote on. There are (2) kits to choose from, (1) Beatrice the Hen and (1) is a white flower. There will be a $20.00 charge for the workshop and a $30.00 kit fee. Consortium- The Best of NY show was cancelled, however, members are invited to come to the meeting on October 12th and bring your winning quilt to show. We will be selling raffle tickets at the meeting for the Stitch Pink Quilt. The proceeds of the raffle will go to the Carol Baldwin Foundation. The drawing will be November 1st. UFO- You can turn in your UFO list up to the November 12th meeting. You have from November to May 2025 to finish your UFO’s. For each UFO finished your name will go into a drawing for a prize presented at our June picnic. Secret Sister- participation is voluntary only. Put your name on the Secret Sister list and you will be required to give at least 5 gifts, not to exceed $10. These gifts can be anything homemade, a notion, candy, fabric or maybe just a card. Use your imagination! Holiday Stocking Challenge- The challenge is to make a stocking, any shape, and should be from 12-24” max. You need to be able to put something in the stocking. You need to come up with a carol or song and the stocking should depict the song. Bring your finished stocking to the December 10th meeting. You can tuck the name of the carol/song in the stocking so members can guess the carol. We are looking for a name for the Candlelight Raffle quilt and the Quilt Show so put your thinking caps on. Show & tell was held directly after the meeting. We had a special display of quilts as the members were asked to bring their first, or close to, quilt and their most recent. Alice
